Why Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba Became One of My Favourite Hotel Visits Ever
If there is one phrase you’ll hear repeatedly in Aruba, it’s “One Happy Island.”
After spending time there recently on an incredible fam trip, I can confirm that Aruba absolutely lives up to the slogan.
From the moment you hear a cheerful “Bon Dia” (good morning) from a local, there’s an unmistakable warmth about the island. It’s not just the sunshine, although with Aruba enjoying sunshine virtually every day of the year, that certainly helps. It’s the people, the atmosphere and the effortless way the island encourages you to slow down and enjoy life.
Before I tell you about one of my favourite hotel visits from the trip, I want to extend a huge thank you to Aruba Tourism UK for providing such an incredible opportunity to experience this remarkable destination firsthand.
A special mention must also go to our fantastic host, Amayra, whose passion for Aruba was infectious. Every aspect of the itinerary was thoughtfully planned, balancing destination experiences with numerous hotel visits that allowed us to really understand what Aruba has to offer UK travellers.
And trust me, we visited some incredible properties.
Yet one hotel continued to linger in my mind long after I returned home.
That hotel was Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba.
Why Aruba Should Be on Every UK Traveller’s Radar
Before we dive into the hotel itself, let’s talk about Aruba.
For UK travellers, Aruba ticks an astonishing number of boxes.
- Sunshine all year round
- Located outside the hurricane belt
- Consistently warm temperatures
- Award-winning, exceptionally clean tap water
- Safe and welcoming atmosphere
- No complicated visa requirements for UK holidaymakers
- Easy access via Amsterdam with KLM
- English widely spoken
- Stunning beaches and turquoise waters
The journey from the UK is surprisingly straightforward. A short flight to Amsterdam followed by KLM’s comfortable long-haul service brings you directly into paradise.
It’s one of those destinations that feels wonderfully exotic whilst remaining reassuringly easy.
First Impressions of Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba
The first thing that struck me about Boardwalk wasn’t luxury.
It was tranquillity.
Nestled within a former coconut plantation near Palm Beach, the hotel immediately feels different from the larger resorts that dominate many Caribbean destinations.
As soon as you enter, you’re surrounded by lush tropical gardens, swaying palms, colourful pathways and an atmosphere that somehow whispers “relax” without being pretentious about it.
The hotel is adults-only, and that decision perfectly complements the property’s personality.
This isn’t a place of booming pool parties and foam cannons.
It’s a place of hammocks, gentle conversation, cocktails beneath palm trees and afternoons where you completely lose track of time.
Which, let’s be honest, is exactly what many of us need.
Boutique But Not Too Boutique
One of the things I loved most about Boardwalk was its scale.
I’ve stayed in boutique hotels that are so small you begin recognising everyone’s breakfast order by day two.
Boardwalk gets the balance absolutely right.
With its collection of private casitas spread throughout the tropical grounds, the hotel feels intimate and personal whilst still offering enough space to create a genuine sense of seclusion.
You don’t feel lost in a huge resort.
But equally, you never feel crowded.
It’s a difficult balance to achieve and Boardwalk has mastered it.
The Casitas: Caribbean Living Done Properly
Rather than traditional hotel rooms, Boardwalk offers colourful private casitas.
Each one is individually designed and embraces Aruba’s laid-back lifestyle with indoor-outdoor living spaces, private patios, hammocks and locally inspired design touches.
Walking around the property feels like exploring a secret Caribbean village.
Every turn reveals another colourful building, hidden hammock or peaceful garden corner.
You quickly find yourself wondering whether you should spend the afternoon by the pool, in your hammock, on the beach or at the bar.
A very difficult problem to have.
Michelin Keys and Global Recognition
Boardwalk’s charm hasn’t gone unnoticed.
In 2025, the hotel achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first and only hotel in Aruba and across the Dutch Caribbean ABC islands to receive Two Michelin Keys.
To put that into perspective, only a small number of hotels worldwide achieved this distinction.
The Michelin Guide praised the property’s character, authenticity, design, service and sense of place.
Additional accolades include:
- Two Michelin Keys
- Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best 2025
- Outstanding guest review scores across major platforms
- Consistently ranked among Aruba’s top hotels
After visiting, none of that surprised me.
Breakfast Worth Getting Out of Bed For
Breakfast can tell you a lot about a hotel.
At Boardwalk, we enjoyed breakfast at The Coco Café and it was genuinely excellent.
Fresh ingredients, beautifully presented dishes and a relaxed atmosphere made it one of those breakfasts where you linger longer than planned.
There was no rush.
No buffet battlefield.
No queue resembling a Black Friday sale.
Just fantastic food served in a beautiful tropical setting.
The Beach Experience
One question people often ask is whether the hotel’s location away from the beachfront is a disadvantage.
For me?
Not at all.
Palm Beach is only a short walk away, and for those feeling particularly relaxed (or particularly committed to holiday mode), there’s a complimentary buggy service available.
What awaits you is arguably one of Boardwalk’s biggest strengths.
The hotel has its own dedicated section of Palm Beach complete with reserved palapas and exceptionally comfortable sun loungers.
Better still, it’s positioned towards the quieter end of Palm Beach.
While much of Palm Beach buzzes with activity, Boardwalk’s section feels peaceful and exclusive.
It’s the sort of place where you settle into a lounger intending to stay for twenty minutes and suddenly realise you’ve spent half the day there.
Not that I’m speaking from experience, of course.
Two Pools, Tropical Gardens and Pure Relaxation
Back at the hotel, two beautiful swimming pools are woven into the tropical landscape.
The entire property feels intentionally designed to encourage relaxation.
There are hammocks hidden among palms.
Quiet seating areas.
Reading nooks.
Garden pathways.
Everywhere you look there is another invitation to slow down.
For many travellers, that atmosphere is worth more than marble lobbies or oversized resorts.
Why Boardwalk Was My Favourite Hotel Visit
After visiting numerous hotels during our time in Aruba, Boardwalk remained the property I kept thinking about.
Not because it was the biggest.
Not because it was the flashiest.
But because it had personality.
It felt authentic.
It felt genuinely Aruban.
Most importantly, it felt like somewhere I would actually choose to spend my own holiday.
Boardwalk captures everything that makes Aruba special: warmth, relaxation, natural beauty and effortless happiness.
It perfectly embodies the spirit of the One Happy Island.
Final Thoughts
Aruba exceeded every expectation I had.
The sunshine, the beaches, the people, the safety, the ease of travel from the UK and the welcoming atmosphere all combine to create a destination that deserves a place on every traveller’s wish list.
And if you’re looking for somewhere to stay that offers adults-only tranquillity, boutique charm, Michelin-recognised excellence and a genuine connection to the island, Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba should be at the very top of your list.
So, until next time…
Bon Dia, Aruba.
