aether Manchester Airport: The Private Terminal You Can Actually Use
Think Manchester Airport's private terminal is only for First Class passengers, celebrities and private jets? Think again. Economy passengers can use aether too, and Travel Counsellors clients have an exclusive benefit worth knowing about.
You can fly Economy, and still begin your holiday in Manchester Airport's private terminal.
That is what makes aether Manchester Airport particularly interesting. Instead of necessarily upgrading your seat on the aircraft, you can upgrade the airport experience itself: privacy, personalised hosting, dining, private security and, where your particular airline and booking qualify, baggage check in and chauffeur transfer to the aircraft.
There is another reason for my Travel Counsellors clients to take a closer look: an exclusive 20% discount on aether's baggage check in service.
What exactly is aether at Manchester Airport?
aether is Manchester Airport's private terminal, created to offer passengers a more seamless, comfortable and personalised airport experience.
Rather than arriving at the main terminal and following the conventional airport journey, eligible passengers can begin their trip at a dedicated private terminal.
Depending on the airline, baggage arrangements and particular aether experience booked, that can include much more than somewhere comfortable to sit.
No, you do not have to be flying First Class.
This is probably the most important thing to understand about aether Manchester Airport.
You do not have to be travelling First Class or Business Class simply to enjoy the private terminal experience.
You could be flying Economy to Spain, travelling with the family, heading off on a long haul holiday or celebrating a special occasion.
In effect, you are upgrading the airport experience rather than necessarily upgrading the flight.
Luxury travel isn't always about having a bigger seat. Sometimes it's simply about removing the stress from the journey.
The YTC view
My clients can receive 20% off the baggage check in service.
When you book your travel through me, there is an additional aether benefit worth knowing about.

The airport can become part of the holiday.
Rather than thinking of the airport as something to endure before the trip begins, aether turns departure into part of the experience.
For my clients, the exclusive baggage check in discount adds another reason to consider it when planning the overall journey.
What makes aether different from an airport lounge?
This distinction matters.
An airport lounge normally appears quite late in the process. You have already checked in, dealt with your luggage, passed through normal airport security and entered the departure area.
aether is designed to take care of much more of the airport journey itself.
For eligible passengers, you can arrive at the private terminal, check in luggage, pass through private security and then relax while your host keeps track of your flight.
When it is time to board, the onward journey to the aircraft can be taken care of for you.
So you are not simply buying somewhere nicer to wait.
You are changing the way you move through the airport.
For many travellers, this could be the real game changer.
Instead of taking your cases into the main terminal and joining the standard check in queues, eligible passengers can have their baggage handled at aether.
Your luggage can be weighed, tagged and processed before being transferred towards the aircraft.
Once the cases are taken care of, you can concentrate on enjoying the private terminal.
For families, couples with several cases, long haul travellers or anybody who simply dislikes the airport check in process, that can make a considerable difference.
easyJet passengers can now use aether baggage check in.
The private terminal experience is now relevant to an even wider range of holidaymakers.
easyJet is now a participating aether airline for baggage check in, subject to the applicable aether booking and airline requirements.
That is significant because of the number and variety of easyJet journeys operating from Manchester.
It also reinforces one of the most interesting things about aether: premium airport travel no longer needs to mean travelling at the front of the aircraft.
You could fly easyJet in Economy and still start the journey through a private airport terminal.
Which airlines can use aether baggage services?
Although aether is not limited by cabin class, the baggage service available depends on the airline.
The participating airline list has expanded as aether has developed. At the time of writing, examples include:
Airline partnerships and eligibility can change, so your individual flight should always be checked before making plans.
A non participating airline doesn't necessarily rule aether out.
If you are travelling with cabin baggage only, the private terminal experience can be available to passengers travelling on scheduled flights regardless of airline, subject to the applicable requirements.
You would need to have completed online check in with the airline and hold a valid boarding pass.
There may also be circumstances where passengers use an eligible airline Twilight Bag Drop before using aether.
Those arrangements vary, which is why I recommend checking the specific flight rather than simply deciding based on whether an airline appears on a list.
From arriving at aether to reaching the aircraft.
Instead of heading into Manchester Airport's main terminal, you travel to the dedicated aether private terminal.
An aether Host welcomes you and guides you through the experience.
Where your airline and booking qualify for baggage check in, your luggage can be weighed, tagged and processed.
Private security comes next.
Once through, everything becomes considerably more relaxed. You can sit back, eat, enjoy a drink or simply watch the aircraft while your host keeps track of your flight.
When it is time to board, the transfer to the aircraft is arranged.
No repeatedly checking a departure board. No rushing through a busy terminal when the gate appears.
Just a very different way to begin a journey.
And yes, the food is intended to be part of the experience.
aether is designed to feel more like hospitality than simply an airport waiting area.
Dining and premium drinks form part of the experience, and aether has worked with award winning Manchester chef Adam Reid.
You can sit down to proper food, have a drink and watch the aircraft outside rather than finding a sandwich while waiting for your gate to appear.
There are some journeys where aether makes particular sense.
Honeymoons, anniversaries and milestone birthdays are obvious opportunities to make the journey itself part of the celebration.
Luggage, children, security and airport queues can turn departure day into hard work. Removing some of that friction can be incredibly appealing.
Before spending ten or twelve hours on an aircraft, beginning the trip calm, fed and organised can make a noticeable difference.
Privacy, efficiency and somewhere quieter to work, eat or take a call can make the concept particularly relevant to executives.
After a major long haul journey, a private arrivals experience can be just as appealing as using aether before departure.
With easyJet now participating in baggage check in, the private terminal option is relevant to many more Manchester Airport passengers.
When time and privacy have a value of their own.
aether is not purely a leisure travel proposition.
For a director, executive or frequent traveller, the combination of privacy, efficiency and personalised hosting may be particularly attractive.
A quieter environment gives you somewhere to eat, work, make a call or simply prepare for the journey without spending the same time navigating a busy airport.
It can also sit naturally alongside a more considered business travel service where the traveller experience matters as much as simply getting from A to B.
You can use the private terminal concept on arrival too.
aether also offers an arrival experience.
Depending on the service booked, travellers can be collected from the aircraft and transferred to the private terminal.
Private arrival facilities can then provide a calmer end to the journey, with applicable baggage assistance where available.
After a long haul flight, this may feel every bit as valuable as using aether before departure.
How should you think about the cost?
aether is a premium airport experience, so it is not designed to be the cheapest possible way to pass through Manchester Airport.
But simply comparing its price with an airport lounge misses the point because the proposition is different.
Depending on the experience selected, you may potentially be paying for a combination of private check in, baggage handling, private security, dining, premium drinks, personal hosting, chauffeur transfer and private arrival services.
The question is therefore less "Is it cheap?" and more "Does the experience add enough value to this particular trip?"
And, where applicable, my Travel Counsellors clients should also factor in the exclusive 20% baggage check in discount.
So, is aether worth it?
It depends entirely on the journey.
If you are taking a very low cost flight for a quick weekend away, a premium private terminal experience may simply not be where you want to spend your money.
But if you are spending several thousand pounds on a family holiday, honeymoon, major long haul trip or special occasion, the calculation can look very different.
You are not necessarily paying to make your flight more luxurious.
You are paying to make the airport part of the journey better.
My favourite thing about aether is that you can travel Economy and still start your holiday like a VIP.
Your Travel CounsellorSpeak to me first.
If you are travelling from Manchester and are interested in aether, get in touch before arranging it.
I can look at your specific flight, airline and baggage arrangements and help establish which options are relevant to your journey.
This is particularly important because baggage eligibility varies by airline and because Travel Counsellors clients can receive the exclusive 20% discount on aether's baggage check in service.
Whether you are travelling easyJet with checked luggage, heading long haul with Emirates or Virgin Atlantic, or travelling with cabin baggage only, it is worth looking at the actual journey rather than making assumptions.
Because your holiday does not have to start when you reach your destination.
It can start the moment you arrive at the airport.
